Skydiver Network

Express yourself from 13,500ft., 200ft., or in a glass bowl :)

Ok, I've read about Bridge Day each year for several years. I've never been but I think I'd like to go.

I know that years ago, jumpers were using regular skydiving gear with extra large pilot chutes.

Is it all base specific gear now?

And if I want to do this, what do I need to do?

Thanks for the help!

Hey, Doc. Natasha here. Yes, you need BASE specific gear. We went through Tom Aiello's first jump course at WV. 3 days of classes. Excellent course. You learn to BASE pack from a pro. And if you take the course with him, you get a good chance at renting gear from him. To rent gear you need to plan early. There's a big rush of people scrambing for BASE gear just before. Folks end up without gear and wandering around saying "hey, can I borrow your rig?". If you don't do the 3 day class, you have to do the 1 day 'learn to hopefully not kill yourself' crash course.
